A year after the sale of Deporvillage to the Iberian Sports Retail Group, the founders of this sports product platform have decided to almost completely disassociate themselves from the business.
In the purchase agreement – through which ISRG paid 140 million for 80% of the capital – the departure of Xavier Pladellorens and Ángel Corcuera was not foreseen. In fact, the entrepreneurs could have continued indefinitely as directors and owners of 20% of the capital. However, the values ??and strategy of both parties have not aligned and the founders have decided to throw in the towel.
“We are abandoning the direction of the business and we are selling 18% of the capital to the ISRG group,” says Pladellorens, who together with Corcuera will maintain 2% of the capital. The transaction has been settled for around 23.6 million euros since the valuation of Deporvillage has fallen by around 25% due to the unfavorable macroeconomic situation.
The new directors of the company will be Amparo Cuerda, marketing director of the ISRG group from Alicante, and José Pérez-Milá, who was on the administrative board of Deporvillage since ISRG acquired the company in August 2021. Both will share the position of CEO of the company.
Since its birth in 2010, Deporvillage has experienced significant growth in the world of online sales of sports equipment. In 2021, the company, based in Manresa, had a turnover of 160 million euros and had 2.5 million customers. According to a statement, the platform sells 100,000 items from 160 brands and is present in 100 countries. As of today, it opens a new stage under the full direction of ISRG, which also controls the Sprinter, JD Sports and Sport Zone platforms.
