Philosophy has always been a very complex doctrine that has exercised the human mind and has built, in a certain way, a vision of the world. Theatre, for its part, is the summary of this through a fictitious representation that can even go beyond the limits of reality. So why not merge them?
The performing arts center of Barcelona La Perla 29 includes the philosophical dialogue between November 24 and 26 in the plays of this new edition of the Escenes de Filosofia i Teatre Festival, invented by the magazine La Maleta de Portbou. The edition, which is entitled Les nits de la Maleta i la Perla, will take place at the Teatre La Biblioteca and aims to unite discourse, critical thinking and human ideas with stage production within the theatrical space.
To combine these two humanistic aspects, the great theme this year is “enraonar”, a word that does not have an explicit translation in Spanish, but is understood as the exercise of deep reflection. In the words of the curator of the proposal, Josep Ramoneda, and the stage director Oriol Broggi, “it is a transitive word that is very suitable for what we want. We are looking for a new way of expressing ourselves that invites shared reflection among the characters themselves, but that at the same time allows us to maintain a dialogue with the public”.
The mixture of these two currents was something that was already sought in the civilization of Classical Greece in order to nourish minds and provide them with creativity. The festival wants to reactivate this same idea with the reflections that are put on stage in order to “reach the viewer’s heart”.
The festival will open on Thursday the 24th with a special show, Pessoa: a midday at the end of spring, I had a dream like a photograph, which will feature the poems of Montse Vellvehí and the musical composition of guitarist Toti Soler. It will continue the rest of the day with several plays, among which Aurora stands out: enraonem per naser, which explains that theater itself is fiction, just like life. Y Reasoning the war, a conversation about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
These philosophical nights will enhance the value of the word through the theatrical game, which will imply a broad commitment on the part of the public, integrating with the actors of the function. A show made possible thanks to the foundation of Banco Sabadell.
