The president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, has claimed as “heroes of the democratic cause” the president of ERC in Parliament and former general secretary of the Vice-presidency and Economy of the Generalitat, Josep Maria Jové; to the ex-Secretary of Hacienda and president of the Port of Barcelona, ??Lluís Salvadó, and to the Minister of Culture, Natàlia Garriga, after the petitions of the Prosecutor’s Office on them on 1-O.
He said it this Saturday at the ERC National Council held at the Faculty of Information of the University of Barcelona (UB) in Barcelona, ??and he asked them to go on stage so that the attendees would honor them with applause.
The act was attended by the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès; the ERC spokesperson in Congress and candidate for Mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramanet (Barcelona), Gabriel Rufiàn; the counselor of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà; the Minister of Business and Work, Roger Torrent, and the deputy general secretary and spokesperson of ERC, Marta Vilalta, among other members of the party.
For Junqueras, ERC has been and is the party “with the most reprisals in the history of this country, because it has been and is the most useful, most committed, bravest, most determined party and the one that generates the most fear of the repression apparatus of the State”.
He has ensured that the decisions of the Prosecutor’s Office to request seven years in prison for Jové, six for Salvadó and one year of disqualification for Garriga “are explicitly contrary to the text and spirit of the law”, and seek to make ERC doubt its strategy , he said verbatim.
In this sense, he has indicated that these decisions “contribute to opening more doors and opening them more than they had ever been open, both within the country and abroad.”
He has said that he wants “to make it clear to any minister who believes, or wants to make believe, that the Catalan independence process is over, that the path to independence is more alive than ever and has more international support than ever.”
In addition, he has stated that from his party they will take advantage of “all the levers and opportunities that derive from the repressive action that they exercise to establish this trust and complicity, which are essential to advance towards the Catalan republic.”
