Sex and the City was able to transform its name to And just like that, but this does not mean that it has lost its ability to attract interesting glances and people to the filming set. And it is that this week the sequel to the cult series has announced an unexpected signing: Sam Smith, the singer who has won five Grammy awards and who is on the charts with the song Unholy, has uploaded a photo on set.

“Ready to do something impious on the set,” the Londoner joked by uploading two photos on his Instagram account. Unfortunately, he’s not wearing one of his last much-talked about outfits, now that in his new musical era, headlined by his fourth album Gloria, he’s blurring the line between masculine and feminine. Whether he will make a cameo where he plays himself or have a role with more substance, only time will tell.

His signing joins that of John Corbett, who will return as Aidan Shaw, one of Carrie Bradshaw’s most mythical couples, the character played by Sarah Jessica Parker. The images of the two actors walking around New York have already caught the attention of fans, especially after many were disappointed during the original broadcast of Sex and the City, when Carrie opted for Mr Big (Chris Noth) over Mr. Aidan, who was theoretically the ideal husband.

It should be remembered that in the first season of And just like that, Mr Big died after exercising on his stationary bike and Carrie had to rethink her life in Manhattan, now that she was experiencing singleness again, even if it was under a widow’s term. Behind the scenes, Mr Big’s death was a blessing, considering actor Chris Noth was plagued by multiple sexual assault allegations that Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have spoken out on.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the allegations against Chris Noth. We give our support to the women who have shared their painful experiences. We know that it has to be something very difficult to do and we congratulate them on it,” they declared in a statement. HBO Max, the creator Michael Patrick King and the actresses, who are also producers of the revival, made the decision to eliminate Noth’s participation from the season finale: the actor had shot a scene in Paris that was ultimately not used.

The second season of And just like that, which is in full filming, still does not have a release date on HBO Max although it is assumed that it will air in 2023. After having recounted the day-to-day life of successful women without commitment in the Big Apple since the end of the nineties and the beginning of the millennium, the sequel focuses on the lives of these protagonists in their fifties, with more adult conflicts and in a stage in which the waiters and doormen of bars and nightclubs are no longer pending of them.
