It is ‘Pea Time’ in the Maresme, a gastronomic event that values ??what is known as the “green pearl” of the region. One of the legumes with the longest tradition in the territory, which is cultivated both in seaside and inland municipalities.
The gastronomic days of the pea begin this Friday, March 10, and continue until May 1, uniting the end of winter with the beginning of spring, which means more hours of sunshine and time outdoors. A time that invites you to enjoy good meals where the pea is the protagonist: peas with cuttlefish, with pork ribs, drowned, with monkfish, inside ravioli, in salads, on pizzas… there are a thousand and one combinations to include this product of km 0 within the menu.
The municipalities participating this year in Tiempo de Guisantes are Arenys de Mar, Cabrera de Mar, Caldes d’Estrac, Mataró, Pineda de Mar, Premià de Mar, Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Sant Pol de Mar and Vilassar de Dalt. They do it with the help of producers, processors and restaurateurs who take care of all the processes, from the moment the pea is just a seed until it is ready for us to taste at our table. Participants can be found on the Costa Barcelona Maresme website.
During the gastronomic days you can enjoy menus and dishes made with Maresme peas, buy delicacies in artisan shops and fill the basket directly from the producers. You can consult the offer of participating establishments in the gastronomic days.
The Land Products Network of the Maresme Regional Council and the DO Alella Wine Tourism Consortium also collaborate in the days, which place Maresme on the Catalan gastronomic map.
Experience the Time of Peas in the Maresme, a few days that value this food so small, but with so much nutritional value. A legume that, due to its properties, is more similar to vegetables, which contains carbohydrates, fiber and vitamin B, essential for nutrients to reach the nervous system.
