Paresthesia, a not so well-known word that gives its name to something that anyone has been able to feel at some time, although it has mostly been momentary, the so-called tingling. After keeping the arm for a long time in the same position or as one of the consequences of dehydration, this is one of the most common ways to have felt it. However, this is only a temporary circumstance. If the tingling is recurrent, the situation and its severity will be very different.

The reasons why tingling hands and fingers occur are usually due to a specific type of disorder. Although this is not always the case, the reasons may vary. For this reason, it will be essential to carry out an appropriate medical examination to identify the origin of these symptoms, which could be revealing a greater cause.

Tingling in the hands and fingers can be due to different causes, although the most common has to do with disorders of the peripheral nervous system. Specifically with carpal tunnel syndrome, a compressive neuropathy suffered by many workers who use their hands as the main tool in their work activity. Jobs of a repetitive nature and of this nature, such as typing on a keyboard, can bring about this consequence.

The severity of carpal tunnel syndrome differs in each case, and can be solved easily with a correction of the posture and the use of healthier methods. Or, for more acute conditions, through surgery that serves to decompress the nerve that causes this condition.

Another reason capable of causing tingling in the hands and fingers is compressive neuropathy of the ulnar nerve, which has the elbow as its epicenter and reverberates in the hands and fingers. Its origin, like carpal tunnel syndrome, may have to do with bad posture or as a consequence of some surgical interventions.

It also happens due to a nerve root injury such as cervical radiculopathy, which arises due to compression of the herniated disc. Or due to diabetes mellitus, which causes damage to different peripheral nerves. But there are also many others, such as anxiety attacks, migraines with aura, or fibromyalgia.

Suffering tingling in the hands and fingers in a timely manner is very common, however, it will be cause for concern when this symptom occurs recurrently. Or as part of another series of signs that could be revealing some type of disease or disorder that requires medical intervention. So the way to act will be to go to a clinic to investigate the origin and be able to issue an appropriate diagnosis.
