Stéfanos Tsitsipàs will not fail in the appointment with the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Trofeu Comte de Godó, whose level continues to rise. The Greek tennis player, number 3 in the world ranking, is the fourth top ten player to confirm his presence in the tournament after Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz and Norwegian Casper Ruud. The Godó organization is working hard to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the tournament with a luxury edition.

Within this select list of participants, Tsitsipàs will be one of the great references to try to lift the title in Barcelona, ??after having been a finalist there on two occasions (2018 and 2021). In the two participations he only conceded against an insurmountable Rafa Nadal. The 2021 match, at the limit, was one of the most beautiful finals in Barcelona in modern times (6-4, 6-7, 7-5).

At the age of 24, the Greek will arrive on the courts of the RCTB-1899 at a mature moment in his career, a phase in which he knows how to overcome the obstacles between one tournament and another. Throughout his sporting career, he has achieved more than 250 victories on the circuit and 9 titles fill his showcase of 25 contested finals, including the Australian Open (2023) and Roland Garros (2021). In the two matches he succumbed only to Novak Djokovic, but always put up a fight, especially in the Parisian tournament, in which he came to be two sets ahead.

Since he arrived in professional tennis, Tsitsipàs has never missed an appointment with Barcelona. He has always marked it in red on his calendar. “It is one of my favorite tournaments”, as he openly confesses.

He loves the idiosyncrasy of Tennis Barcelona and the atmosphere around the Godó Trophy. His game is perfectly suited to the characteristics of the land of RCTB-1899, where he accumulates a total of 12 victories for only four defeats. Last year he fell in the quarter-finals in three sets against Carlos Alcaraz, the eventual champion of the tournament, after an intense fight.

Precisely, in his debut in 2018 he reached the final (the first of his career) and discovered himself in front of the world as one of the great talents of the racket at just 19 years old. It was his baptism of fire, because until then he was an absolute unknown for the fans.

Barcelona is usually the birthplace of great talents, who are revealed at the Godó Trophy and then become consolidated. Since that spring five years ago, the relationship between the tennis player and the tournament has been fantastic and his game is highly appreciated by the understanding Barcelona public.

After a great start to the year at the Australian Open, physical problems with his shoulder halted his progress and prevented him from playing in Acapulco. He returned to Indian Wells and fell in the first round against Jordan Thompson. But in a month it is expected to be much more filmed.

The next edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell will take place from April 15 to 23.
