The family of the young Alexandru Andrei, who suffered a brutal beating in Amorebieta-Etxano (Bizkaia) in the summer of 2021, feels “anger” and “fear” because two of the participants in that attack are already free.

The events occurred in the early morning of July 25, two years ago, in a park in the Biscayne municipality, where a group of 20 men between the ages of 15 and 38 belonging to the ‘Hermanos Koala’ gang beat Alexandru, a young lawyer of 23 years. The attackers beat him with sticks and bottles to rob him. The young man suffered serious injuries, went into a coma and today appears to have severe neurological sequelae and significant disability.

At that time, Ertzaintza detained 16 people, eight minors and eight other adults, for whom there is still no judicial decision. Now, as explained by a spokeswoman for the victim’s family, a Juvenile Court has imposed internment measures and probation of between three and six years for attempted murder for the eight minors involved in the beating, “but two of them, those who had less grief, are already on the street”.

The minor who had a greater participation in that beating will have to serve six years in a closed detention center. Another three are taxed for five years each, and two more young people will have to remain hospitalized for four years. In addition, all will have to spend two years of probation after leaving the center. The eighth participant has only been sentenced to three years of probation.

“They had warned us from the beginning that they were going to be small sentences as they were minors, but hey, in the end at least the one who did the most damage has received six years,” said the spokeswoman for the victim’s family. . However, the security measures that the court has imposed on minors do not seem “sufficient for the state in which Alexandru is”.

“The fear that the mother has is that when they go out, they will do something to her again,” added the spokeswoman. She has also warned that two of these young people are already on the street after spending more than a year in hospital.

The family feels “fear and resentment.” The mother continues “fighting every day”, taking her son to rehabilitation and “trying to have money for him, to take care of him”, but it is very hard for her because “everything is going so slowly and she does not see progress in her son in that state “, It is finished.
