Concentration is essential for our productivity. However, finding it is extremely difficult for many people. Constant distractions such as notifications, noises -both visual and auditory-, poor organization and lack of discipline come together so that even the flight of a fly steals our time.
As a result of the lack of concentration, we are less productive and perform worse in tasks of our day to day, at work or studying. From this derives a feeling of frustration that only makes the situation worse. Fortunately, concentration can be trained and recovered with a series of good habits that will make a difference.
Working or studying in a messy environment will make it difficult for you to concentrate due to the amount of visual noise around you. Before you begin your tasks, take a moment to organize the area. Leave on the work surface only what is essential. This way it will also be easier for you to find the things you may need, reducing waste of time.
Perhaps you are one of those who concentrate better with music, but if you spend the day singing instead of concentrating on your obligations, it is better to opt for melodies without lyrics or directly work in silence. Turning off your mobile, moving it away from you or silencing notifications will also avoid constant distractions or that need that we often have to immerse ourselves in social networks completely losing track of time.
Organization is key to both concentration and productivity. Allocate a fixed schedule to your goals and avoid doing anything during that time that is not in your planning. And, of course, no procrastination.
Forget multitasking and focus on each task one at a time. During the period of time that you have assigned to each obligation, focus as much as possible on it without interrupting it to do anything else.
If you want to concentrate as much as possible, you should include breaks in your planning. We are not talking about resting for one hour for every hour of work, but a few minutes so that your mind can breathe and clear. Otherwise, you will accumulate fatigue and your head will be saturated, so it will be more difficult for you to concentrate.
Make sure that those breaks involve getting up or moving away from your work area. For example, go for a coffee or take a short walk. Also, getting enough sleep at night will help you feel rested during the day, so your head will be clear and you’ll concentrate better.
Exercise not only benefits us physically, but also activates our mind so that we are more focused. Hitting the gym in the morning or going for a walk on your lunch break will help you feel energized and more productive.
