The Commission for Ecology, Urban Planning and Mobility today initially approved the project for the new Barcelona Companion Animal Reception Center (CAACB) to be built in Montcada i Reixac.
Its construction will make it possible to replace the facilities of the current CAACB, located on the Arrabassada road, a construction from 1972 conceived as a kennel that, due to its limitations and structural deficiencies, currently provides a limited response to the needs of dogs, cats and ferrets. lost and abandoned in the city.
The new center will be located in the municipality of Montcada i Reixac, the result of an urban agreement signed on November 5, 2014 between the two municipalities. Specifically, it is projected on the estate known as Torre Doña Juana, next to the Collserola cemetery, within the limits of the natural park.
It will be built within a closed space of about 2.6 hectares, in which there will be the buildings, landscaped open spaces and recreation spaces for the animals. The constructed area, of about 6,000 square metres, includes the central services and gates building (ground floor and two basement levels) and the pit buildings. In total, the new equipment will have a capacity to accommodate 350 dogs and 150 cats.
The executive project, which has been developed and updated by the municipal company Bimsa, will now be submitted to public information for a period of 30 days. The will of the municipal government is to be able to tender the works before the end of the mandate, while the start of the works would be between September and October of this year.
In parallel to the processing, the corresponding works license has already been requested from the Montcada i Reixac City Council, which has been recently approved. The construction of the new facility will involve an investment by Barcelona City Council of close to 19 million euros.
The architectural proposal has a clear desire for physical and visual integration in its environment, so that it is arranged in several terraces that adapt to the unevenness of the terrain.
