13th edition of the Barcelona International Auteur Film Festival:

Barcelona celebrates the thirteenth edition of D’A – Barcelona auteur film festival – from March 23 to April 2 at the CCCB, Aribau Multicines, Filmoteca de Catalunya and the Zumzeig room. The contest, dedicated to the best contemporary independent and auteur cinema, screens a total of 115 films and organizes all kinds of complementary activities.

For this weekend, D’A has 25 screenings scheduled, among which Fuego Fatuo, by João Pedro Rodrigues, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Seville Festival, stands out; Human Flowers of Flesh, by German director Helena Wittmann; A radiant sun, by Mònica Cambra, Ariardna Fortuny, Claudia García de Dios, Lucía Herrera and Mònica Tort; o The Fantastic Case of the Golem, the Burnin’ Percebes comedy recently premiered at the Malaga Festival.

The star of this edition’s Focus D’A is the English director Joanna Hogg. This focus of the filmmaker will be located at the Filmoteca de Catalunya, where this weekend La hija eterna (2022) will premiere, and other Hogg films will be screened, such as Unrelated (2007) and Archipelago (2010).

Double dose of Robbie Williams at the Palau Sant Jordi (Friday and Saturday):

Robbie Williams visits Barcelona this weekend with his XXV TOUR 2023 tour, in which he will celebrate his 25 years of great success as a soloist. The Palau Sant Jordi will host the British rocker today and tomorrow, as the artist added a concert on Saturday after selling out Friday tickets in less than an hour. Williams will interpret the most important hits that have marked his career.

Morgan Pol Batlle and Rita Payés at the Lets Festival:

The Lets Festival, which is being held in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat this month, will today merge the Morgan group with the duo of Pol Batlle and Rita Payés. The Madrid rock band Morgan will present their third studio album The river and the stone, a set of ten songs that they started working on after the confinement in 2020. Pol Batlle’s first album, Salt Mortal, produced by the award-winning in the Latin Grammys Juan Berbín, is accompanied by the voice of Rita Payés, trombonist and jazz and bossa nova singer. Together they have toured the most important auditoriums in Spain and Italy. This musical union can be witnessed today at 7:30 p.m. in the Salamandra room.

The fourth installment of Keanu Reeves’ action saga, John Wick:

The legendary assassin John Wick, already retired, returns to action in the fourth installment of the saga. The character played by Keanu Reeves, driven by an uncontrollable quest for revenge, will fight bloodthirsty killers who are after him. If he wants to get out alive this time, Wick will have to push his skills to the limit.

Matria, a social drama with which María Vázquez has won the best actress award at the Malaga Festival:

After passing through the Berlinale and the Malaga Festival, where María Vázquez was awarded as best actress, Matria arrives in movie theaters. This social drama, directed by Álvaro Gago, tells the story of Ramona, a forty-year-old woman who lives in a fishing village in Galicia. Ramona juggles multiple jobs to stay afloat and provide a better future for her daughter Her Star. But when Estrella is ready to go her own way, Ramona realizes that she, for the first time, can do something for herself.

The French romantic comedy Chronicle of an ephemeral love:

French Emmanuel Mouret directs this romantic comedy starring Sandrine Kiberlain and Vincent Macaigne, who play a single mother and a married man who become lovers. They decide to see each other for just a fling and find no hope of love, knowing full well that the relationship has no future. However, each time they are more surprised by their understanding, their complicity and the well-being they experience together.

3 wishes, a musical about Alzheimer’s that honors the figure of the caregiver:

El Maldà presents 3 desitjos, a newly created musical in Catalan by the company La Sinàptica. The play tells the story of a young couple, Dani and Lara, whose lives change when he is diagnosed with a minority genetic variant of Alzheimer’s. Lara becomes Dani’s caretaker and little by little she has to adapt to this new situation. In a last ditch attempt to help him before she loses her memory, she decides to grant Dani his last three wishes. 3 desitjos has the dramaturgy of Marc Lluís Fernández, the music of Carles Alarcón and, among its performers, the renowned Mercè Martínez.

Sala Beckett presents Els encantats, the story of a broken family that travels to the past:

Els Encantats, written by playwright David Plana and directed by Lucia del Greco, opens the door to the intimacy of a broken family. A father, a son and a daughter decide to take a trip to a magical place from the past, a place at night far from civilization. The characters try to remember the origin of the conflict in a universe where the borders between reality and imagination are blurred.

The Joan Miró Foundation presents Imaginary Friends:

Through Color Bears and rooms with balloons, Imaginary Friends seeks to introduce contemporary art to visitors of all ages, especially the youngest. It does so through an interactive, fun and welcoming exhibition, with proposals by artists from different contexts and generations, such as Paola Pivi, Kasper Bosmans, Polly Apfelbaum or Martin Creed.
