Its geostrategic location, the availability of renewable energies or an unstoppable logistical development are just some of the competitive advantages that have placed Aragon in the focus of attracting business investment in recent years. There are constant announcements from companies from various sectors that are committed to establishing themselves or growing in the autonomous community, which is already a benchmark in logistics, but also in the circular economy -with an ambitious strategy to promote a more efficient economic model- or in the cloud and digital sector, among others.
Among the main attractions of this territory is also the presence of leading companies on a national and international scale. This is the case of Inditex or Amazon, in the logistics field; from Amazon Web Services (AWS), as a world reference in cloud services; Certest Biotech or Alliance Health-care, in the pharmaceutical sector; from leading agri-food groups, such as BonÀrea, Grupo Jorge or Grupo Costa, as well as numerous firms in the automotive sector and leading companies in the transformation towards a circular economy, such as Saica, among many others.
These are just some of the proper names of the Aragonese productive fabric that act as the best prescribers in the region. Added to these competitive advantages of Aragon compared to other territories is a political and social climate of stability, and the outstanding proactive role of the Government of Aragon in facilitating the development of their projects by developers, guaranteeing legal certainty and administrative agility. For the latter, the Aragonese Executive has the declaration of Autonomous Interest as a tool to reduce administrative deadlines by half and offer a preferential boost in its processing to those business projects considered relevant for socioeconomic development.
In addition, in terms of economic support, the Government of Aragon has subsidies for RD linked to sustainable mobility, the pharmaceutical sector and the circular economy, aid that this year has a budget of 18.5 million euros and that in the The three previous years have enabled it to support 64 industrial research and experimental development projects that have involved a business investment in the Autonomous Community of more than 171 million euros.
These cutting-edge initiatives, in addition to generating significant investments and creating and consolidating jobs in the Autonomous Community, are positioning the Aragonese plants as benchmarks in innovation. Aragon also has other differential subsidies, such as Regional Incentives and complementary aid for these projects financed by the Aragonese Executive itself. But, without a doubt, one of the main assets for the future on a national and international scale is human capital.
Aragon is a land of talent, but to promote it even more, the regional government has designed the Aragonese Talent Center and an ambitious strategy around it to try to generate and attract this fundamental value in the knowledge society. To this end, the region takes advantage of its leadership in strategic sectors, its good quality of life, and its leading training and research centers, among other competitive advantages.
The sum of all these assets and the numerous new business investments in the portfolio paint very good prospects for this Autonomous Community. The near future is marked by decisive projects, such as the start-up of the railway motorway that will connect the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (PLAZA) with the Port of Algeciras, in 2024, promoting greater sustainability of the transport of goods, by raising the trucks to the train and promote the use of the railway between the Aragonese capital and the south of the Iberian Peninsula.
In addition, to respond to the great demand for logistics land, the Government of Aragon, through its public company Aragón Plataforma Logística, is already working on an expansion of 240 hectares of the public platform in the Aragonese capital and on the start-up of of a new platform in the town of Zuera, with another 150 hectares of quality land, distributed in large plots that allow responding to current market demands and with an excellent road and rail connection. In this way, the offer continues to be expanded and improved in the Aragonese territory, which has other strategic enclaves, such as the logistics platforms of Huesca (PLHUS) and Teruel (PLATEA), an Autonomous Community with a promising present and future.
