Ciudadanos continues to fight against the pension reform proposed by the Government and has confirmed this Tuesday in Congress that it will vote against the validation of the decree law, which will reach plenary session next Thursday.

It is a “patch” that “mortgages” the future of families and companies, exclaimed the deputy spokesman for Ciudadanos, Edmundo Bal, who, as his leader, Patricia Guasp, did yesterday, has called for the resignation of Minister José Luis Write.

For Ciudadanos, the reform, which provides for an increase in pensions based on the rise in the CPI, represents a “wild indexation”, something that has led the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (Airef) to question its viability due to the deficit that predicts that it will lead to public coffers.

But since, in addition, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations precisely presided over Airef before making the leap to the Executive, it seems to Bal a matter of “bullfighter shame” that Escrivá resigns after having been unauthorized, in the opinion of the spokesperson for Ciudadanos, for this independent body.

While the PP has given its position to the reform for “electoralism”, since it affects nine million pensioners whose vote is disputed with the PSOE, Ciudadanos – Bal assured – is very clear that “there will not be for everyone ” and that soon it will have to “choose” between pensions and education, health, dependency or social policies.

As an alternative to make the system sustainable, the Liberal Party proposes medium-term measures such as promoting the birth rate, a housing plan to facilitate the emancipation of young people and a program to combat job insecurity. And in the short term, that pensions are not revalued based on the CPI, but on the average increase in wages, as is being done in Portugal.

In this sense, the deputy spokesman for Ciudadanos has taken advantage of his appearance in the press room of Congress to charge against the policies of the Ministry of Equality because, from his point of view, they do not solve the problem of reconciliation between work and professional life suffered by Spanish women.

“Stop ideologies,” Bal vehemently requested Minister Irene Montero, whom he has urged to take measures that effectively reduce the gender gap: “It cannot be that lawyers are told that they have to choose between being partners in a law firm or being mothers,” she argued.

Asked about the speech of an evangelical preacher at the Latin American meeting of the PP last weekend, the Ciudadanos spokesman was blunt in pointing out that religion should not be mixed with politics: “They are like oil and water”, Bal has pointed out, for whom “religion messes up political decisions”, so acts like the one carried out by Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Isabel Díaz Ayuso to obtain the support of the Latino community in Madrid pose an “enormous danger”.

For Ciudadanos, this matter should already be “over” in Spain, but Bal has wondered if it is also over for the PP and for Vox. “Not the same”, the Liberal deputy has responded rhetorically, who has also shown his interest in knowing what the interpretation that the Catholic Church has made of this matter will have been: “It has given me the willies. It has reminded me of the worst that we see on television of North American preachers and of the authoritarian rulers of Latin America”.
