Carlos Alcaraz will face the American Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 in Miami, after beating, in a more demanding match than the previous ones, Tommy Paul, executioner of the Spanish with their last twelve clashes, by a double 6 -4.

“The key was that I didn’t attack all the time. I did it well at the net, well with my forehand, with the backhand, with the serve, I played a very complete game,” explained the Murcian at the subsequent press conference.

Alcaraz, who defends the number one conquered a few weeks ago in the Indian Wells Master 1000, faces a difficult match with almost no rest. Nor has his rival, Taylor Fritz, had much time to recover, who got rid of Holger Rune in just under an hour and a half of the game with a resounding 6-3, 6-4.

The American is one of the top 10 the Spaniard has never faced. Therefore, there are no precedents between the two tennis players.

Alcaraz is now three victories away from achieving the “Double of the Sun” —winning both Masters 1000 tournaments in the United States in the same year— after his victory in Indian Wells last week, a victory that would also allow him to keep the number one in the world ahead of Novak Djokovic.

The Murcian is in a difficult side of the field that also includes the Italian Jannik Sinner, who defeated the Russian Andrey Rublev and will play the quarterfinals against the Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori, executioner of the Dutchman Botic Van de Zandschulp. He precisely won the Indian Wells semifinals against Sinner and could meet the Italian again in that same round.

The quarterfinal match of the Miami Masters 1000 between Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz will be played at dawn from Wednesday, March 29 to Thursday, March 30, not before 2:30 p.m., depending on the completion of the previous matches. The meeting can be seen on television on Movistar and can also be followed live on the La Vanguardia website.
