Cala Belladona, in the heart of the Costa Brava, is from today a beach where bathers can go with their pets. The space will also have a snack bar with specific services for pets such as a shower, a fountain or a play area.

The municipalities of Calonge and Sant Antoni and Platja d’Aro, which share the cove, about 110 meters long and 25 meters wide, will allow all users with pets to enjoy this space.

This is, as explained this morning by the mayor of Platja d’Aro, Maurici Jiménez, a “need” expressed not only by the inhabitants of these two municipalities on the Costa Brava, who did not have any space on their coast suitable for pets, but also of tourists who visit this area of the Baix Empordà.

The deputy mayor of Calonge i Sant Antoni, Arturo Prades, has spoken along the same lines, pointing out that even the private sector, such as hotels or catering businesses, had demanded a space of this type. The closest hotel to the beach is pet friendly, whose average occupancy throughout the year is around 80%.

Unlike other municipalities that decide to enable only a part of the beach so that pets can bathe or play in the sand, in this case both municipalities have chosen to allocate their entirety to that use. A space away from traffic.

Until now, the closest beaches suitable for pets were in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Palamós. “That is where we referred tourists who asked us at the Tourist Office; from now on they will be able to enjoy our territory with their pet”, explains the councilor for Tourism of Platja d’Aro, Jenny Xufré.
