The work of female artists has taken center stage at the Girona Art Museum with the exhibition Esclats d’un instant, 70’s. The contribution of artists to the Avui newspaper’s art fund.

In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we have visited the exhibition, which presents part of the collection from the Avui newspaper’s art collection, specifically, the work of 100 women artists, and which was later acquired by the Generalitat de Catalunya.

We can see both painting, sculpture, ceramics, tapestries, photography and drawings by artists as well-known as Pilarín Bayés, Roser Capdevila, Colita, Maria Girona, Lola Anglada, Fina Miralles, Emília Xargay or Amèlia Riera, among others.

The exhibition presents a selection of 51 works by Catalan artists and highlights the trajectories of poorly represented or little visible women in the halls of Catalonia’s art museums.

The relevance of the exhibition also lies in the fact that all the works were made at a very specific moment in history, which “allows for a first reading of what was the paradigm of art in Catalonia produced by women artists”.

In the exhibition, “we can see a great diversity of styles – from more classical figurative proposals to abstract proposals and even the first conceptual options– and above all the variety of techniques – painting on canvas, wood, sculpture, illustration… – among which stand out ceramic productions, enamel or a carpet.
