The sports journalist Luis Fernando Baranda passed away suddenly last Sunday at the age of 58. This was confirmed on the air by Edu García, director of Radioestadio de Onda Cero, the station where Luisfer worked, as all his colleagues knew him.

“A few hours ago we learned of the death of a colleague. We have learned that our colleague in Bilbao, Luis Fernando Baranda, has left us. We do not have many details. I know that he died tonight at his home in Bilbao and that he is Tomorrow his relatives have found him lifeless and have shared the news,” García explained at the beginning of the Sunday program.

Born in Portugalete (Vizcaya), Baranda was linked to the clubs of the province, a journalist with extensive experience in sports information, although in recent years he has also participated in other types of programming. He had spent several decades covering information on Athletic Club, Bilbao Basket and previously Cajabilbao. He was also a specialist and lover of rowing and cycling, among many other sports.

The match between Surne Bilbao Basket and FC Barcelona started this afternoon in Miribilla (5:00 p.m.) after a minute of silence at the Bilbao Arena in his memory. The local team was able to dedicate a victory to him (82-80) that left the blaugrana without the leadership of the Endesa League. The coach, Jaume Ponsarnau, sent a souvenir to the family.
