The Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard launched an operation this Wednesday morning for alleged irregular contracts within the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) during the time in which Luis Rubiales is in charge. as police sources confirm to La Vanguardia. The origin of the investigation – which is kept secret – lies in the contract between the former federation president and the former footballer Gerard Piqué for the transfer of the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.

The searches ordered this morning by the Investigative Court Number 4 of Majadahonda (Madrid)—which coordinates the actions—aim to collect documentation that has been requested, but not delivered. In this context, UCO agents have searched the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation and eleven homes. Among them is the house of Rubiales in Granada.

The Civil Guard plans to end the operation with seven detainees and five under investigation. One of these latest defendants is Luis Rubiales, who was not in Spain when the police operation was launched. Among those detained are members of the federation and businessmen, as confirmed by the same sources.

The interventions are part of an investigation linked to alleged criminal acts associated with corruption in business, unfair administration and money laundering during Rubiales’ time as head of the Federation.

The investigation began in 2022, after the Court of First Instance and Instruction Number 4 of Majadahonda, in Madrid, admitted the complaint against the president of the Spanish football federation, Luis Rubiales, and against Gerard Piqué for alleged corruption crimes. in business and unfair administration after leaked audios about the negotiation to move the headquarters of the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.

Investigation sources explain that as a result of the investigation of this contract, irregularities were discovered in more contracts, all linked to Rubiales. Among those detained are members of the federation and businessmen.

The initial complaint was directed against Rubiales and the Barça footballer and owner of the Kosmos company by the leader of the National Football Coaches Training Center (CENAFE), Miguel Ángel Galán.

The case contains a report from the General Intervention of the State Administration (IGAE) that concludes that “they wanted to keep hidden” the agreement reached by the Federation and the company of the former Barça defender to take the Spanish tournament to Saudi Arabia until the 2029. It also points out that the Catalan was associated with the RFEF, an accusation that the organization has denied several times, and that there was a “letter of assignment” to “provide coverage for the commissions.”
