From April 11 to June 30, citizens must comply, one more year, with their tax obligation through the income statement.

Upon completion of the procedure, there is the opportunity to make an altruistic gesture: check box 106 of “Assignment of amounts to activities of general interest considered of social interest”, also known as the “X Solidaria”. From the app, it is marked on the “Social purposes” button, in the “Tax allocation” section. When checked, 0.7% of the full amount of the taxpayer’s statement is allocated to social purposes. To what specifically?

“When this box is checked, we are collaborating so that millions of people in a situation of vulnerability in the face of an increasingly unstable context of social and economic crisis, can move forward,” the official website of the X Solidaria campaign states. The gesture does not imply an economic cost for the declarant, so the amount to be deposited or returned will not be modified.

The programs include incorporation into employment for the Roma community, care for deaf people, integration of women in social difficulties, care centers for breast cancer… “People with disabilities, assistance to homeless people, fight for the eradication of gender-based violence or attention to the rural population, are some of the groups that benefit from this citizen solidarity” it adds.

Projects are also carried out in other countries through international development cooperation. In this case, we work with people in situations of poverty or refugee and/or displaced population.

The amounts to be distributed are used for other purposes of general interest, that is, those that contribute to improving the quality of life of people and of society in general and to protect and preserve the environment.

Each year the amount collected is distributed among the various projects of the NGOs. The management of the money collected is carried out between the General State Administration and the Autonomous Communities and, thanks to the work of social organizations, it reaches millions of people who need it.

In the last ten years, the number of people who mark the “solidarity X” has grown by more than 2 million, increasing collection by more than 120 million euros, according to data from the organization.
