The Government, through the General Directorate of Energy and Climate Change, will open this Friday a call for one million euros to promote electric micromobility in the Balearic Islands and promote the acquisition of electric mobility vehicles such as bicycles or scooters.
In a statement, the general director of Energy and Climate Change, Pep Malagrava, explained that they know that in the Islands there is a ratio of more than one car per inhabitant, which is one of the highest in the State, so “the impulse of shared mobility, along with that of micromobility, are fundamental axes for this Government, which is aware that transport is one of the biggest pollutants”.
For this reason, he sees the involvement of all sectors as necessary to continue with an energy transition in the Islands that creates better quality air, which will also have an impact on the health of citizens. “We encourage citizens to request this aid and to continue promoting electric micromobility in the Balearic Islands,” she said.
In addition, Malagrava has explained that this subsidy comes from the framework of the sustainable tourism tax. “The alternative of using personal mobility vehicles (VPM) and electric bicycles instead of cars, especially in urban journeys, can contribute to a very important degree to a more efficient and sustainable transport. This will also contribute to traffic calming and the decongestion of vehicles in urban areas”, he stated.
On the other hand, he added that they expect these vehicles to respect traffic regulations, have a maximum speed and are insured. “From the Government we continue to promote the decarbonisation of transport, at the same time that we continue with the penetration of renewables and we make aid available to the different sectors to continue in this much-needed energy transition to be able to adapt to climate change”, he said.
Applications must be submitted electronically through this web process, and the deadline to register them will be between this Friday and July 31, 2023.
Individuals of legal age residing in the Balearic Islands who do not use the personal mobility vehicle for an economic activity for which they offer goods and/or services on the market may be beneficiaries.
Electric bicycles must be electrically assisted pedaling bicycles, equipped with an auxiliary electric motor, which may not be propelled exclusively through this motor. In addition, the maximum speed of the motorized vehicle must be 25 km/h, have front and rear lighting and a minimum range of 25 km.
Likewise, an approved helmet, a reflective vest and a leaflet / leaflet with the main rules of use and circulation must be delivered with the bicycle. On the other hand, you must have insurance that covers civil liability for a minimum amount of 200,000 euros.
Electric scooters must be propelled exclusively by an electric motor with a 230 V integrated battery and charger system, be single-seater and, if equipped with a saddle, have a self-balancing system. These vehicles must have two wheels, and front and rear lighting.
The minimum autonomy of the scooter must be 15 km and the speed at which it can reach is between 6 and 25 km. An approved helmet, a reflective vest and a leaflet / leaflet with the main rules of use and circulation must be delivered with the scooter. In addition, you must have insurance that covers civil liability for a minimum amount of 200,000 euros.
