Steffy Argelich is one of the leading Spanish models on the catwalk. The top native from Barcelona has starred in campaigns for the main fashion brands. Her career was linked to the world of modeling since she debuted in a Freixenet ad at just one year old. After her, in adolescence, more vocational campaigns would come, like the one she starred in at the age of 16 for Stradivarius, and once she turned 18 she tried her luck in Paris, where she modeled for Nicolas Ghèsquiere’s Louis Vuitton. No one predicted a future for this popular model in the world of cinema and yet, as her first film explains, each one carves her own path.

Argelich has made the leap into the seventh art industry as the director of Vera, an American film shot mostly in Cadaqués, with actors such as Alejandro Castro, Nicole Wallas, Marta Torné and Gabe Fazio. “I’ve worked all my life in front of the camera, as a model and actress, but I’ve always been interested in the process of creating,” the model admits.

Thus, the artist debuts this Friday as a film director at the Beverly Hills Festival (Los Angeles) with a drama about kindness and equal opportunities, regardless of the origin of each one: “The story I want to tell is that each person has the same possibilities regardless of where they come from or what their background is”, she acknowledges and adds that for her what mainly defines a person is determination.

According to her account, it was her husband, the filmmaker Grear Patterson, who pushed her to fulfill her dream behind the cameras and with whom she has collaborated to write Vera’s script. “I always wanted to direct a film but I took the plunge when I met my husband. He helped me launch myself headlong into this life time project,” says Argelich.

The model and now filmmaker also advances that the characters in her story are based on real people from her circle, stories that she has experienced in the first person and witnessed. “In my films I like to show reality because in modeling it is already written,” admits this catwalk star who, despite the fact that she has not yet released her debut title, has already announced that she is preparing new projects behind the camera.
