Catalonia will close the month of April with the arrival of a very warm air mass that will cause a notable rise in temperature. In addition, the models of the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya indicate that, in the medium term, the anticyclonic ridge will strengthen over the Iberian Peninsula, allowing a warm irruption of African origin that will be accompanied by suspended dust in the southern half of the country.
The maps provided by the ECMWF model (European Prediction Center) for Saturday and Sunday show that the warm air mass will embrace a good part of the Iberian Peninsula.
In Catalonia, at an altitude of 1,500 metres, the temperature may reach or exceed 18ºC, a value that will be 10ºC higher than normal on these dates.
One of the most important facts to take into account will be the maximum temperature values expected for Friday and Saturday. In points of Ponent, the maximum temperature could reach between 33 and 35 ºC. On the coast, pre-coastal and in the Pyrenees, the maximum values will be between 20 and 24 ºC, and in the rest of the territory between 26 and 30 ºC.
The wind will blow between weak and moderate from the western component in the interior, especially in the Ponent —which will favor the rise in temperature— and from the southern component between weak and moderate on the coast and pre-coastal, where the maximum temperature may be slowed to cause of the marinade. Besides, the highest minimum temperature will be recorded in points of the southern third, with values between 16 and 18 ºC
Due to the possible variations of the atmospheric configuration, it will be necessary to follow carefully the following updates of the forecast.
