It seems like only yesterday that the baby started to get the first ones and the main concern was to find out how to relieve the pain of the milk teeth, and they are already beginning to fall out. This process usually begins at approximately six years of age, although it is sometimes delayed up to a year. This occurs because the new teeth, the permanent ones, need space. However, it is not a random fact, there is an order that indicates which ones fall first.

Although it is true that it is not an exact science, there is usually a pattern that, more or less, all children follow. However, there may be some minimal differences due to different reasons, such as the type of diet, genetic issues or other reasons. In any case, when they start to move it is already a sign that you should be alert.

The renovation of the teeth to leave behind the milk ones and go on to have the final teeth usually begins with the lower frontal teeth. These will probably be the first to make the child receive a visit from the Pérez Mouse. These lower central incisors will be followed by the upper front teeth. While the following will be the lateral incisors. Next, the first molars. Later, the canines and, lastly, the second molars. In this way, the transition from milk teeth to permanent ones will be completed.

At the moment in which the final tooth is already just below the milk tooth, it will begin to press to come out of the gum, thus forcing it to detach and leave its position free. Although at first, after the milk tooth falls out, only an empty hole can be seen, the permanent tooth will soon be seen through it.

Each piece of that final set of teeth that will accompany the child throughout the rest of his life is larger than his previous milk teeth, especially the lateral and canine teeth. That is why they need more separation from each other and space. This progressive replacement process, which lasts for around six years, until children are approximately twelve years old, comes hand in hand with the development of the maxillofacial bone. It is for this reason that the order of tooth fall corresponds to a progressive expansion of the available space. When there is some type of alteration or hindrance in this process, it is when it will be necessary to visit the pediatric dentist. In this way, a study of the child’s dental status will be carried out to avoid possible future problems.
