The National Police have arrested four people for labor exploitation in nail salons in the province of Girona. Among the detainees is a businessman who forced his workers to work days without rest, paid them 4 euros an hour and falsified the time records of his foreign employees, some of whom were hired irregularly.

A few weeks ago, the police carried out an inspection device in two manicure establishments located in the towns of Girona and Salt (Girona) to prevent possible crimes against the rights of workers and to prosecute illegal immigration. The result of the investigation revealed the situation in which some workers found themselves in these establishments.

The workers were subjected to long working hours without rest, low wages and falsified records of long hours so as not to uncover suspicion. One of the workers was even forced to work while she was sick, despite having presented a medical report where she accredited her inability to work.

The employers took advantage of the situation of special vulnerability of the victims, in order to impose harmful working conditions on them, not registering them with Social Security and taking advantage of their situation of irregular stay in Spain.

As a result of this intervention, 16 victims have been identified and four arrests have been made: that of the employer for an alleged crime against the rights of workers and that of three workers, two women and one man, for violation of the Immigration Law. .
