The Renfe company has scheduled three trains per hour in each direction from this Wednesday on the section of the R2 Sud de Rodalies between Sant Vicenç de Calders (Tarragona) and Barcelona, after the fire that occurred on Monday in a signaling box in Gavà . This incident affects the signaling system between El Prat and Castelldefels, which is why there is a limitation of the operational capacity in the aforementioned section, in which the movement of convoys has had to be limited, which has caused indignation among the users, crowded together at the stations, some unable to get on at rush hour. Some measures that they consider insufficient given the great demand for these lines.
Adif technicians, who have been working since Monday night to repair the damage caused by the fire, have today implemented the nominal Telephone Block, which allows the system to provide a capacity of three trains per hour in the affected section, and in this way systematize the offer of trains.
In this way, in the section of the R2 south (Sant Vicenç de Calders – Estación de Françia through Vilanova), two trains will circulate per hour and in each direction, stopping at all the stations on the line, while the Regional services will make a trip for time and meaning These services will stop at all stations between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Barcelona. This line has been further affected early this Wednesday morning by a fault between Sitges and Garraf, which has caused additional delays of 20 minutes. Adif claims to have already resolved the incident.
The regional trains of the R11 (Portbou – Girona – Barcelona) will provide the usual service, stopping all the trains at the stations between Granollers Center and Barcelona, thus maintaining the frequency of the R2 north in this section. Long Distance trains will remain on 3 Intercity services in each direction between Catalonia and Valencia, which may suffer occasional delays.
Renfe reports that since Monday night the company has been working to guarantee the mobility of Rodalies passengers, facing “an unexpected situation with the greatest possible diligence”. To this end, the information teams at stations and equipment at the operational level have been reinforced in order to guarantee, as far as possible, the provision of the service.
As Adif technicians improve operational capacity in the near future, the offer of services may be increased, according to Renfe.
The general secretary for infrastructures of the Ministry of Transport, Xavier Flores, explained yesterday that the incident resulting from a fire in a railway signaling near Gavà (Barcelona) will affect the Rodalies line R2 and R2 Sud for at least three weeks. In an attention to the media, Flores stressed that the “most reasonable” hypothesis of the cause of the fire is the lightning strike the night before on the catenary, with the “bad luck” that this infrastructure fell on one of the signaling systems from the Gavà station.
For its part, the Generalitat de Catalunya announced that it will reinforce from this Wednesday the bus service in that section of traffic that brings together a large number of the population while the incident lasts, although with a much more limited capacity it will be insufficient to alleviate the effects of the failure.
