There are many artificial intelligence applications that are specialized in various functions. For the creation of images, among others, Stable Diffusion, Midjourney or Leonardo AI stand out; Runway for videos, JukeBox or MusicLM for audio or ChatGPT, among many others, specialized in dialogue. This latest AI, owned by OpenAI, is currently the most popular, probably because it was the first chatbox to be released a few months ago.

In our country, AI projects are also coming out in the process of being consolidated. This is the case of LuzIA, a personal intelligent assistant via WhatsApp created by a group of Spanish entrepreneurs. The product has hundreds of thousands of users in more than 40 countries and has generated more than 5 million responses.

LuzIA is based on the ChatGPT operating model, and stands out in terms of accessibility, since it is only necessary to add it as a contact on the mobile device to use it through WhatsApp; as its creators, Javier Andrés, Álvaro Martínez Higes and Carlos Pérez, point out.

The three Spanish entrepreneurs who have launched the AI assistant explain that this tool has the ability to “answer questions, transcribe audio, translate hundreds of languages, and generate images in real time, with privacy and security protection as its flagship.”

LuzIA differs from other competitors because it uses Stable Duffusion technology to be able to generate images based on texts, as its creators point out in the letter: “It is a functionality that substantially distinguishes us from other AI assistants in the world and that we have called IMAGINE, since to start using it we only have to go to the assistant heading the order with “Imagine…” and it alone will generate the photograph that we have requested with the elements that we want… with this we want to ratify our commitment to simplicity of use and to placing artificial intelligence within everyone’s reach”.

To use this artificial intelligence, you have to access the LuzIA website through your mobile device and select the “try it now” option to start the conversation with the bot. Thus, a chat will open in the WhatsApp application (or WhatsApp Web if accessed from a computer). QFrom that moment on, LuzIA is added as your WhatsApp contact and you can chat with her.

The intelligent personal assistant answers questions in text and audio in any language, transcribes audio and generates images from descriptions preceded by the ‘Imagine’ command. According to the tests that La Vanguardia has been able to do, the audio transcription option is by far the one that obtains the best performance: the translations are very precise and impeccable at the grammatical level and even the punctuation of the text, which makes LuzIA tremendously Useful for converting long audio files to text. The creation of texts and images also works well, but not at the level of systems like ChatGPT or Midjourney, on which it is based.

According to the installation instructions of the wizard, you can see how you do not have to provide any personal data to use the bot. “We understand that to earn the trust of our users we must safeguard their information, provide safe and reliable solutions,” the founders said in the statement, something they define as the starting point of their privacy and security policies.

The founding team of LuzIA points out that this assistant is “complemented with a social function”. And it is that it allows a person with a hearing disability to access WhatsApp voice messages thanks to artificial intelligence, in addition to being able to simplify texts so that they can be understood by people with disabilities or, “breaking the digital divide that our elders suffer with the dizzying development of technology.

In statements to Gizmodo, the creators of LuzIA revealed that, originally, the name of the tool would be Chatify, but the final choice is due to a tribute to the classmate who “had the best notes in the entire university” at the time when the that Javier Andrés, one of the creators, was studying business administration.

LuzAI, as they indicated in the letter, combines APIs from various companies. It currently uses the language model of GPT 3-5 and Whisper because, as stated in the aforementioned header, “they are the best in the quality/price binomial”. Of course, they indicated that they remain open to using and/or combining other models that allow them to improve their results. LuzIA is expected to evolve in the coming weeks along three lines: “greater customization, new capabilities and better tools”.
