Held at Phillips’ new Asia headquarters in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, with a room packed with collectors, journalists and watch enthusiasts from across Asia watching the bidding, this historic auction featured collectors of 56 countries.
Everyone was waiting for the big star. The Patek Philippe reference 96 Quantieme Lune that once belonged to Aisin-Gioro Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing dynasty, sold quickly, but over the phone. The winner of the bid was an Asian collector living in Hong Kong, who withstood the onslaught and was able to get his wish after six minutes of vigorous bidding.
It is the highest result for any Patek Philippe reference 96 ever sold, a record for any wristwatch owned by Emperors ever sold at auction, and the most valuable lot ever. Sold by Phillips Watches in Asia.
