Jorge Fernández is one of the best-known faces on television, and it is certain that viewers would miss not seeing him every noon on La rulette de la suerte. After five years of struggle, the presenter has managed to overcome a health problem that almost made him retire from the small screen: Lyme disease, linked to the accumulation of mercury.
A problem that ended up taking its toll both physically and psychologically, above all, for not having a clear diagnosis during the first years. “The worst thing is the uncertainty and that it gets worse. I didn’t even look in the mirror,” explained the presenter in his last interview for the magazine Hello!
Visibly deteriorated, Jorge Fernández did not stop working even in his hardest time. After losing 13 kilos, the presenter had to put himself in the hands of the doctors to find out what was happening to him. Two years later, and thanks to a pharmacist friend, they managed to diagnose her with Lyme disease, caused by the bite of an infected tick.
This is how the presenter himself tells it in the aforementioned magazine. “My ankles, knees, shoulders began to hurt…”, he says. A bad drink that was added to the problems sleeping and the extreme weight loss that he was suffering. But that was not all, a high level of mercury in his body, just destabilized his life.
Jorge Fernández wanted to claim that his problem with mercury came, in part, from a high consumption of tuna. This, together with a component of airplane gasoline, which entered his body after spending 30 years flying, made Fernández’s health worsen at times.
A problem that, together with Lyme, almost made the presenter abandon his daily program. “My doctor told me to stop,” he explained in Hello!. However, he had a clear answer: “I don’t give up roulette.”
It is not the first time that the roulette presenter has spoken about his health problems. “They have spent many years with various symptoms that all end with the same diagnosis: chronic fatigue, depression, functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, anorexia, dizziness, insomnia, paresthesias in the lower limbs…”, he himself recounted on his social networks a few years ago. years.
“I refused to accept this shit,” he said in the same publication. In addition, he wanted to send a clear message to his followers: “No doctor can send you home telling you that you have chronic fatigue. You have to look for the why. ALWAYS!!! Because in medicine there is always a why… â€.
“It was a very hard time. How many tears have I shed before going out to record! I should have withdrawn from the program because I was terrible, but I am very stubborn,” explained the presenter in Men’s Health magazine.
Luckily, it seems that Jorge Fernández has been able to overcome the bad taste that he suffered during five years of his life and is fully recovered.
