The birth of the storks on the banks of the Duero in Zamora is a spring example of the extent to which this river represents a source of life in this city of Castilla y León.

Zamora is located in the middle course of the Duero River, with a longitudinal configuration along the river course, in the extensive region that forms the North Plateau.

Storks take advantage of their Mediterranean climate with continental traits to settle in spring, build their nests and breed, as can be seen in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

The eastern part of Zamora is on the river valley and acts as a border with the regions of Tierra del Pan and Tierra del Vino, located to the north and south respectively.

The western part is where it separates from the river to the north and acts as a border with the Tierra de Alba and Sayago regions.

The main nucleus of the urban area -with a very elongated layout and largely surrounded by walls- rises on a wide rocky plateau (the “peña tajada” of which the Old Romancero speaks) from 26 to 32 meters high, located on the edge of the Duero River, which surrounds it from the south. For this reason, she acquired the nickname of “the well fenced one”. The altitude is 652.6 meters above sea level.
