The weather will give a truce in Spain this June: there will be fewer heat waves and more rain throughout the country. According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), in the first days of the meteorological summer, which begins this Thursday, spring weather will prevail.

Meteorologically, June will begin with storms in many places and temperatures that will remain mild and even somewhat cool for the time of year in most of the country, as well as abundant cloudiness, according to the state agency.

This time responds to the powerful and persistent anticyclone installed in northern Europe and the British Isles that forces low pressure to circulate through latitudes close to Spain, which “guarantees unstable weather in this transition from spring to meteorological summer.”

“In the coming days the unstable weather will continue in most of the country, with the possibility of showers, especially in the afternoon, in large areas of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Showers that locally will be strong and will be accompanied by storms and hail”, according to Rubén del Campo, spokesman for Aemet.

For this Thursday, locally strong showers and storms are expected in the interior of the northern half and eastern third of the peninsula, Mallorca and Menorca. On Friday, the agency points to near-widespread showers and thunderstorms. For the weekend, the instability will continue in a large part of the Peninsula.

In June, temperatures will experience ups and downs, depending on the areas and the days, but in general they will remain at lower values than usual for this time in the center and south of the peninsula, where daytime values could be up to five degrees below normal at some points.
