The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) union has warned that the Sabadell DGT prefecture could be forced to close this summer due to lack of personnel. In a statement, the union explained that the staff of this office, initially 58 people, has been progressively reduced until reaching “a limit situation” in which there are 50% vacant positions.
The union has revealed that the forecast is that during this summer there will only be one person to serve the public and carry out all the procedures and another to face the theoretical exams for the driving license. This situation could lead to the suspension of the tests and the closure of the service until September.
On the other hand, CGT has indicated that the Barcelona office is also at a worrying point given that the workforce, made up of 263 employees, has been reduced by 30% due to retirements in recent years, transfers to other organizations of the administration, transfer competitions and the incorporation of new personnel.
The union has revealed that the situation could affect more than 5 million users, not only in the province of Barcelona, but also in Girona, Tarragona and Lleida, since in these areas of the territory the Traffic prefectures are also collapsed. “Citizens end up trying to make an appointment wherever they can” says the CGT.
