The possibility of a future understanding between the PP and the PNV once again looms over Spanish politics, although this time less than seven weeks before a general election. The president of the PNV, Andoni Ortuzar, has indicated that his party has two major reservations about this possibility. The first is the “journey to the hard right” of the popular candidate, Alberto Núñez Feijóo; the second, closely related to the previous one, is the presence of Vox in the political equation: the jeltzales insist on the maxim that they will not talk to the popular ones if the far-right formation is in the equation.

In an interview on RNE, Ortuzar has insisted that the presence of Vox is the main obstacle that prevents an eventual understanding with the popular, something that he has been insisting on since the Galician politician took command of the PP and there is speculation about a future understanding with the jeltzales.

The PNV leader, however, has added that his party views the PP’s “journey to the hard right” with concern. “The biggest problem we have with Feijóo is called Vox, and it is also this trip to the hard right that Feijóo is making, probably as a pre-electoral or electoral tool to reach the elections on July 23, in his opinion, better placed” , has indicated.

Ortuzar has described this future dialogue as “complicated” taking into account the political position of the popular, impossible in the event that the understanding includes Vox.

“There are things that we are hearing these days, for example, about the trans law, and about some things that they would like to eradicate that I think will make it difficult for us to talk to such an extreme Popular Party, so far to the right. Now if you have to count on Vox, we get completely out of the equation ”, he has expressed.

In this way, the PNV avoids slamming Feijóo, although the jeltzales are aware that they must measure a lot to what extent they can be loved by the popular. Those of Ortuzar arrive touched at the general elections after the results in the municipal ones and they know that a part of their voters reject in a strict manner that they can even speculate on supporting the PP, even though the numbers are hardly going to give.
