ERC and EH Bildu have announced this Thursday that they will present themselves in a joint electoral coalition for the Senate elections on July 23 under the name of Lefts for Independence, giving continuity to the parliamentary group that both formations formed in this legislature.
“Today ERC and EH Bildu, the Basque and Catalan pro-independence and left-wing sovereignists, stand before the Basque and Catalan people with the commitment to do everything in our power to respond to what our peoples want, need and demand” , reads a joint statement from both parties.
Both ERC and Bildu have shared a parliamentary group in the Senate during this last legislature, although the Republicans provided proportionally more senators than the Basque formation, which had two parliamentarians.
Now, the leaderships of both parties have decided to contest the Senate elections under the same ballot in Catalonia and the Basque Country, extending “the agreement that has led to advances for the social welfare of our citizens and the resolution of the Catalan and Basque conflicts with the Spanish State that remain open in our towns”.
“That all the votes we receive, all the trust placed in us, has meant that our deputies and senators have been decisive throughout this legislature. We have shown that political union allows us to win and offer advances in rights and freedoms to our citizens and citizens”, pointed out the president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras.
For his part, the general coordinator of Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has also celebrated the agreement: “We have been the useful and decisive forces to promote social achievements that, although without the depth and scope that we would have liked, we have managed to improve life of the social and working majority. And we are sure that we will be again”.
