Everyone has told a lie once in a while and it is completely normal and human behaviour. Sometimes it is done to look good, others to avoid conflicts, sometimes as an excuse and even to protect oneself or others. The problem comes when this becomes a habit, on a day-to-day basis. That is the case with compulsive liars. Mythomania, as this pathological tendency is known, consists of a distortion of reality by a person, in a repetitive and daily way.

Compulsive liars lie to gain admiration, attention, or respect, as well as to avoid harmful situations. But many other times they also lie for no reason, simply on impulse. This often leads people around them to suspect and doubt, who, however, end up accepting their false statements because of “why would I lie about this?”.

Compulsive liars are used to lying, so they can do it so naturally that it is not entirely easy to catch them. However, there are certain signs that can end up discovering even the most skilled liar.
