The acting mayor of Tarragona, the Republican Pau Ricomà , has announced this morning that he will leave politics after the general elections. “I honestly do not contemplate that the figure of someone who has been mayor sits on the opposition bench; this does not help either to regenerate the municipal group itself, or to generate positive dynamics”, he stated during an interview on Radio Ciutat de Tarragona .
With six councilors, ERC has lost the mayoralty of the city and it will be Ruben Viñuales (PSC) who will take office as of Saturday, when the Town Halls are constituted. Unlike the previous mayor, Josep Fèlix Ballesteros (PSC), who has remained in opposition for the last four years, Ricomà has announced that he will leave and that he will actively leave politics to facilitate the replacement of his municipal group in a few months. , “to leave the team well organized and cohesive”, he stated. The number two of the Republicans, Maria Roig, will become spokesperson for ERC in the Tarragona City Council.
“I already said that even if I were mayor I would not present myself again; my objective right now is to leave the group well planned”, he stated, acknowledging that “from a personal and economic point of view staying would be much more profitable, but I am thinking of the city and in the future of the municipal group and in the desire from minute zero to recover the mayoralty for ERC”. Ricomà thus follows in the footsteps of the former mayors of ERC Miquel Pueyo in Lleida and Mireia Ingla in Sant Cugat.
