The four-year relationship between the acting mayor of Madrid, José Luis MartÃnez-Almeida, and the acting deputy mayor of the capital, Begoña VillacÃs, will come to an end on Saturday with the plenary session of municipal investiture, although the councilor has taken advantage of the start of the week to say goodbye to his dance partner in Cibeles. And he has done so by showing his “very deep and sincere gratitude” after “four very good years working together.”
This is how Almeida expressed himself during the Samur Social awards ceremony from the Casa del Lector in Matadero Madrid, where he highlighted the fact that the Popular Party and Citizens have known how to work in the capital “in a coalition government, which is not easy, and in the circumstances” they have had, as well as they have known how to “overcome differences”. Tensions that in other administrations, such as in the Community, without going any further, led to an early divorce.
VillacÃs’s rapprochement with the PP a few months before the elections hinted at a hypothetical extension of their relationship. But Almeida’s absolute majority in the Palacio de Cibeles, by obtaining 29 seats, has eliminated any list of favors to be returned from the equation. Even more so after Ciudadanos was left without representation in the municipal plenary session after losing the 11 seats obtained in 2019 at the polls.
“Politics is ungrateful, but Madrid’s public services are not. Thank you very much for the work, and applause for the deputy mayor,” asked Almeida, who then embraced VillacÃs.
VillacÃs, for his part, keeps his agenda full and will take advantage of his position in the Madrid City Council until the last moment to say goodbye.
“I owe a lot to this city, I have enjoyed working for the people of Madrid and I am receiving many messages of recognition and affection”, the Madrid politician recently highlighted, who will visit the places she has tried to help to say goodbye to this man over the next few days. exercise and thank the affection of the people with whom he has met.
“That is what I am going to do, not to give up my arms but to take advantage of this Vice Mayor’s Office to do better things until the last moment,” he stated, stressing that what must be done is “continue thinking about Madrid” and, above all, ” want this city to run its course.”
