The computer services of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) have activated a plan of preventive measures against a possible computer attack, as they have communicated through social networks. To do this, the university has cut connectivity while studying the source of the “abnormal operation” detected last midnight.
“Currently, the university does not have connectivity and, therefore, its computer services cannot be accessed,” the statement specifies.
University sources confirm that the technical team, in collaboration with the Catalan Cybersecurity Agency, is studying what happened and the possible scope, and they expect the analysis to conclude this afternoon, when they will restore the service and offer their conclusions.
The preventive measures plan has been activated to avoid the possible computer incident, detected thanks to the technological monitoring tools available to the institution.
“The measures are in line with ensuring the proper functioning of the University’s computer infrastructure. We ask for the collaboration of the entire community to minimize the risks,” reads the statement.
The cut has occurred at a key moment of the academic year, which coincides with the end of the third term school period and the beginning of the exam period.
