The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has presented the results of the last road safety campaign that it carried out, between May 22 and 26, to monitor school and minor transport vehicles. And the balance has not been positive. According to the data provided, Civil Guard agents controlled 3,576 vehicles, of which slightly more than 45% (1,622) were penalized with a total of 2,809 complaints filed.
The body headed by Pere Navarro has indicated that it is a higher percentage than those registered in the latest specific campaigns on this sector. What does remain stable are the most frequent infractions of this type of vehicle. Thus, administrative irregularities are those that have generated the greatest number of complaints. Of the total, 825 correspond to lacking special authorization to carry out school transport and 423 to having subscribed unlimited liability insurance, as required by law.
Regarding the use of seat belts by passengers traveling in vehicles equipped with this safety element, in 51 of them they were not used because they did not work well. This figure has grown by 1.6% compared to the last campaign carried out in December 2022.
The agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard also verified that a hundred of the school transport vehicles presented deficiencies in the service and emergency doors, as well as in their activation devices and another 29 were denounced for not having the updated Technical inspection of vehicles.
As regards the mandatory signage that this type of vehicle must carry, 189 of the controlled vehicles did not carry the corresponding V-10 school transport sign, a percentage that has also grown by 3 points compared to the last campaign , and another 19 lacked the light device with an emergency signal.
In addition, 41 drivers were denounced for not having a person in charge of caring for minors on board the bus when appropriate and another 24 for excessive driving time or reduced rest time.
As regards the breathalyzer controls, none of the professional drivers tested on those days tested positive; This was not the case with drugs, since the agents denounced 14 of them for driving under the influence of these substances. Likewise, 5 were penalized for breaking the established speed limits.
