The debt that Amber Heard had with Johnny Depp has already been paid. The actress has paid the million dollars (about 926,531 euros, in exchange) that she owed her ex-husband as part of the agreement reached by both parties after losing the media trial for defamation, held in June last year.

A legal battle that lasted for no less than six weeks and that ended with the actress being sentenced with a fine of 10 million dollars to pay for defaming her ex-husband, referring to herself as a victim of gender violence in a column written by her and published in The Washington Post.

A million dollars that the actress has already paid through her insurer, but that will not go to Johnny Depp’s coffers. As reported by the TMZ portal, the actor has already distributed that amount among no less than five charities (200,000 dollars / about 185,400 euros for each one) with which he usually collaborates, with causes such as helping children with terminal illnesses, getting homes for the most disadvantaged classes or the protection of ecosystems.

Specifically, the charities that will receive these substantial donations will be the Make-A-Film Foundation (opportunities for terminally ill children to use the media and cinema as tools to express themselves), The Painted Turtle (medicalized camps for children with serious diseases), Red Feather (construction of safe homes for indigenous and Native American communities), Tetiaroa Society (protection of the island of Tetiaroa -atoll in French Polynesia- and its ecosystem) and the Amazonia Fund Alliance (group of organizations dedicated to the protection of the Amazon and its ecosystem).

Depp agreed to settle the case last December by limiting the award to $1 million and ensuring that his goal was not to bankrupt his ex-wife. However, the Fairfax court (Virginia, USA) considered that Depp should compensate his ex-wife with 2 million dollars, who filed a counterclaim, also for defamation. The actor’s current legal team is still litigating to avoid this payment.

Heard, who moved to Madrid last May with her young daughter, is trying to relaunch her artistic career and will appear on the red carpet at the 69th edition of the Taormina Film Festival (Italy) on June 24 for the world premiere of his new movie, In the Fire. There, presumably, she will coincide with Depp, who will go to promote Jeanne du Barry, the film that marks her return to the big screen and which triumphed at the recent Cannes Film Festival.
