This Wednesday, Pedro Duque debuted in ‘La Resistencia’. David Broncano introduced him as “the only Spaniard who has been in space.” After doubting whether it is outer space or not, he added: “It is the first time that an astronaut has come to ‘The Resistance’, a person who has been in a rocket!” The presenter exclaimed excitedly.
Speaking of rockets, Duque made a statement: “A rocket has five times more acceleration than a Formula 1 car.” Upon taking a seat, Pedro Duque “flies” over the amount of “things” that surround the presenter: stuffed animals on the sofa, photographs, musical instruments, etc. The former Minister of Science and Innovation came to ‘La Resistencia’ to present his new publication: “Isaac Newton”, a children’s book.
David Broncano showed interest in the senses of an astronaut, but Pedro Duque assured that vision is not the same after 60 years. “I thought you could hear a cricket in Móstoles”. The Spanish cosmonaut considered that no “special sense” is required to exercise in space. Progesterone levels were also discussed, to which Duque replied that “all kinds of tests are done.” As for his studies, he graduated in Aeronautical Engineering and concluded with an average of honors.
Asked if someone has taken drugs into space, the astronaut guarantees that he does not know anyone who has done it, nor has he joked about it: “I know that there are people who have taken cigarettes. Someone, in the past, did it.” Regarding trips to the moon, Broncano mentions the trip prepared by NASA and private trips, such as those of Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.
David Broncano did not hesitate and asked about the income of an astronaut: “He had a public salary, ‘nice’. More than as a minister,” Duque pointed out. “International agency worker salary,” he added. Regarding the money in the bank: “Are there people who answer this?” Duque questions. “Well, I, no,” he was blunt.
“And sexual relations in the last month?” Broncano tried. “Are there people who answer this?” insisted the astronaut. “Don’t you know anyone who has done a ‘space wank’?” Broncano asked. Pedro Duque was stunned and tried to avoid the subject: “There is not much privacy in the space.”
In the year 2020, the comedian Jorge Ponce launched a scientific question that Pedro Duque answered through a didactic video. It is worth remembering!
