There is an image that will always accompany Maud Angélica, the eldest of the three daughters that Princess Marta Luisa of Norway had with the ill-fated writer Ari Behn. On January 3, 2020, at the funeral of her father, who had decided to take his own life on December 25, she was photographed with her mother and her two sisters, holding a handmade drawing that was going to be her Christmas gift.
That day, the young woman, who was then 17 years old – now she is 20 – gave a speech, full of emotion, that went around the world. “I just want to tell everyone who has been through mental illness that there is always a way out. Although it is not seen. There are people out there who can help. Everyone deserves love and joy. It is never a weakness to ask for help but a strength. There are so many people out there who are infinitely happy because you are in their life and you need it. Never think that it is better to leave. Since then, Maud, who is fifth in line to the throne of her country, has become a champion for mental health; she was chosen as the image of a campaign focused on suicide prevention and has received different awards in recent years.
Now, the eldest granddaughter of King Harald and Sonia of Norway, who has debuted a radical change of look by shaving her hair, is making the leap into the world of reality television. The young woman will show her skills in the kitchen in a cooking program, Masterchef style, which will be released in autumn.
Marta Luisa’s eldest daughter has shared the news on her Instagram account, where she has published two images, one alone with an apron and another with the rest of the participants in the television space. Together with them she has written: “I am in the Kokkeskolen program on TV2 that will be broadcast this fall! Lots of fun and a good group of people! A big hug”.
Maud Angelica has already demonstrated her skills as a painter and now she will have the opportunity to shine in the kitchen, although she has already confessed that she doesn’t particularly like it. “Last year I started cooking more at home and now that I’ve moved I have to do it, eating is a necessity,” she revealed during the contest presentation.
The recordings of the program, in which eleven other well-known faces from Norway compete who will learn culinary techniques from the chef with two Michelin stars Eyvind Hellstrom, began a few days ago. The participants will live together in an old school and, each week, one of the applicants will be eliminated until only one remains, who will be the winner, a kind of Norwegian Masterchef Celebrity.
This is not his first foray into television, since at the end of 2022 he already appeared on the small screen in the Norwegian version of another well-known format, Mask Singer. In her family it begins to be something common: her sister Leah Isadora, 18, also participated last year in the Power Women Norge program, which followed the day-to-day life of inspiring women. And two years ago, her mother participated in another project that reflected what her life was like. Also the wife of her uncle, Princess Mette-Marit, participated before getting married in a television program to find a husband.
In the world of royals there are more cases of television appearances. Filiberto de Saboya, grandson of the last King of Italy, Umberto II, became the winner of the fifth edition of the Italian version of Dancing with the Stars in 2009.
Princess Sofia of Sweden, before marrying Carlos Felipe, participated in the reality show Paradise Hotel, where several singles lived together in a luxury hotel in order to find love.
Last year, Mike Tindall, husband of Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Phillips, became the first British royal to participate in a television game show. The 44-year-old former rugby player ventured into a reality show called I’m a celebrity…Get me out of here, in which the stars faced various challenges in the Australian jungle. He was sent off at the gates of the grand final.
In our country, also last year, María Zurita, King Felipe’s cousin, demonstrated her skill in the kitchen in the seventh edition of Masterchef Celebrity; and Ignacio de Borbón, grandson of a second cousin of King Juan Carlos, came fourth in Survivientes 2022.
