I have been able to photograph the first blooming sunflowers in the Empordà for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia. It must be said that this year there are far fewer sunflowers here than in other years.
This image of the fields of sunflowers always evokes the soul and creative spirit of the artist Vincent Van Gogh for painters like me.
Sunflower is an annual herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family, native to Central and North America and cultivated as food, oilseed and ornamental throughout the world.
The planting season for rainfed crops varies according to latitude, but lasts approximately one month from the beginning of summer.
It is an undemanding crop regarding the type of soil, although it prefers clay-sandy soils rich in organic matter, but it is essential that the soil have good drainage and the water table is at a shallow depth.
