Acciona has closed with the vehicle rental company Ok Mobility a first order for 300 units of its new S04 electric car that will be delivered this month and will begin to circulate in Mallorca, the company’s president, José Manuel Entrecanales, has announced. in a meeting with journalists on the occasion of the general shareholders’ meeting held today.
The sale of the first units will provide “initial feedback” and will serve as a “pre-launch” of an electric vehicle that will begin to be marketed to the general public this year, “rather in the fourth quarter than in the third,” added the President of the company.
“We are already taking order orders for the new car, so that when it comes out we have maximum precision,” Entrecanales stated. This vehicle, manufactured in Barcelona by the subsidiary Silence, has become the spearhead of the group’s new orientation towards sustainable mobility. “We have put many hours and passion into building this car.”
The S04, explained Entrecanales, will cost less than 10,000 euros once the aid is taken into account. It will have a range of 150 kilometers and, like Acciona’s motorcycles, it will be based on a ‘batteries as a service’ model, with the option of renting and replacing the batteries.
Acciona, which already has agreements with Seat for the distribution of its electric motorcycles, will sell the cars through its own dealer network and based on agreements that it is finalizing with various companies. “We believe that we have a very good product,” says Entrecanales.
The new vehicle is a two-seater model very focused on urban mobility. It has been developed with its own technology and, if the user wishes, it can work without a key, with a system that allows, through the MySilence app, to open and close the vehicle and control some of its features.
The batteries are removable and can be charged anywhere. They are also compatible with any other Acciona car. One of the advantages over other electric models is that, by exchanging the battery, refueling can be done in a few seconds.
Entrecanales has also explained that Acciona has “studied” the possibility of changing its registered office to the Netherlands, as Ferrovial has done. “The decision is that at the moment we are not interested due to multiple reasons,” he explained. “The situation is stable in Spain and the costs are not worth the effort.” In addition, Acciona’s presence in the United States, unlike Ferrovial, is “relatively minor.”
