A new pact between Junts per Catalunya and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya allows the previous government pact to be reissued in the Regional Council. Again, the regional government, the PSC, is left out, which accuses the Republicans of breaching a signed agreement, which the ERC denies.
The events have precipitated when from JxCat, who assure that they only negotiated with the PSC as it is the force with the most votes in the region, they detected that the socialists, in parallel, had also opened negotiations with ERC and the figure even appeared in the negotiations from a PDECat representative.
Given what JxCat considers a sign of disloyalty on the part of the PSC negotiators: Vanesa Muñoz, Ernest Suñé and Miguel González Monforte -organization secretary in the region- opted to start new negotiations with the Republicans, which have finally come to fruition.
From ERC, its regional president, Josep Pena, assures that there is no document that compromises the pact with the PSC. He only acknowledges the drafting of a meeting minute in which “there was only a declaration of intent” but that it cannot be considered an agreement “because it was not signed by any of the presidents.”
In addition, Josep Pena appreciates that the government agreement with JxCat allows “to give continuity to the policies started in the previous term” and considers it “very generous” on the part of the post-convergents, “as we were four years ago”. The agreement offers the presidency to ERC during the first two years and the last two to JxCat.
Along the same lines, Carles Bosch, president of JxCat in the Maresme, assures that “the pact signed by the PSC in the Barcelona City Council weighed on the decision” and maintains that “the same thing could not happen in the Maresme”.
