The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a man in Tarragona for simulating the theft of his vehicle, with which he had had an accident two days before, with no injuries, and who then fled the scene of the road accident on foot.

The detainee is a 44-year-old man, and is accused of simulating a crime, the theft of his car, with the intention presumably of wanting to collect insurance compensation, according to what the Generalitat Police reported this Tuesday.

On March 13, the arrested man reported having been the victim of his car being stolen. Precisely, two days before, the car had been involved in a traffic accident on the N-240, near Perafort (Tarragona).

The two occupants of the vehicle that caused the road accident, including its detained owner, fled the scene on foot, abandoning the car.

The agents of the Mossos Traffic unit who were in charge of the accident confirmed at that time that there was no indication that the car had been stolen.

Once the theft was reported, the inconsistencies that the detainee offered to the Mossos regarding the theft of the vehicle made the investigators suspicious.

After also corroborating that the person driving the car at the time of the accident was the person who reported the robbery, the Mossos carried out his arrest.
