The current reserves of water in the Catalan reservoirs are together 30%. And, in the Sau reservoir, a great emblem of the dry period in Catalonia, they are just at that level, after not much is born they were below 10%.

At the beginning of summer, the Sau reservoir has gone from being a desert of drought to becoming a true paradise, because the rise in the level of the reservoir has been accompanied by a burst of green landscape, flowers and animals, as can be seen in this report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

The arid place that it had become at the end of winter and beginning of spring has been transformed into a great garden of Eden, which attracts all eyes.

You can see how the water has already reached the cemetery of the old town of Sau, where all the ruins are once again submerged except for the bell tower of the emblematic Romanesque church of Sant Romà.

In addition, the meander of the Ter surrounding the monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres has also raised its water level.

One of the places to see the reservoir is the Morro de l’Abella, which is a viewpoint with fantastic views of the Sau reservoir, which is located a few kilometers before reaching the town of Tavertet. Another of the viewpoints is that of the Parador Nacional, on the way to Sant Pere de Casserres.

If we find ourselves in the Morro de l’Abella, below, from this privileged view from the viewpoint, we will see the reservoir and, in front, we will have the Puig de la Força and, to our right, the Salt de Tirabous.

The Sau reservoir, in the municipality of Vilanova de Sau, at the foot of the Guilleries massif, belongs to the Ter river basin. It is part of a system of three swamps (along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral) that unites the counties of Osona, in the province of Barcelona, ??and Selva, in the province of Girona.

The reservoir, inaugurated in 1962, covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the remains of which, especially the bell tower of the temple, are visible when the dammed water level is low, because in times of drought like the one we have experienced and which It seems to be starting to subside.

In fact, even in times of prolonged drought, the old town is once again exposed and it is possible to visit it, as has happened in recent months. Now, however, the attraction is different: the great natural garden of the Sau reservoir.
