Jonathan Castroviejo (INEOS Grenadiers) was proclaimed Spanish time trial champion for the sixth time this Friday, after a race in which the main favorite, Juan Ayuso, was fourth, and Raúl García Pierna, who was defending the title, suffered a breakdown on his bicycle and finished tenth.

Castroviejo once again celebrated a victory in an individual time trial four years after doing so for the last time in 2019. In this way, the 36-year-old Basque cyclist extended a record, which already included five national time trial titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019).

Oier Lazkano and Lluis Mas, both from Movistar, were second and third, respectively, just three and six seconds behind, after completing a 32-kilometre route with a 280-meter drop.

Juan Ayuso, the top favourite, had a problem with his bike when he hit a bump, his chain came off and he lost just enough time to miss out on the podium as fourth place.

Raúl García Pierna (Kern Pharma Team), who was defending the title last year, suffered a breakdown on his bike. He had to change it and lost a time that prevented him from fighting for victory.

In the sub-23 category, the first was Unai Aznar from Navarra, followed by his brother Hugo and Javier Ibáñez.
