It won’t be in Girona city, but it will be on a nearby stage. The awards of the Fundació Princesa de Girona (FPdGi) will return to their place of origin after five years, during which the three convocations held took place in Barcelona. With the aim of recovering the original idea of ??highlighting, in Girona, the connection of the Crown to Catalonia through the historical title, which was affected by the political tension arising from the pro-independence process, the award ceremony and the rest of the activities will take place on July 5 at the Camiral hotel in Caldes de Malavella. The call to Girona city has again been discarded due to the absence of collaboration from the City Council, chaired by Lluc Salellas.
The day before, Princess Elionor and Infanta Sofia will tour a symbolic enclave in the province of Girona, as they did last year when they visited the Dalí Theatre-Museum, in Figueres, the first time the heiress was in the territory that gives its name to one of its titles.
From 2009 to 2017, the events took place in the Girona Auditorium. In 2018, due to the refusal of the City Council, then chaired by Marta Madrenas, to transfer the facilities, the award ceremony was held at Mas Marroch, in Vilablareix, owned by the Roca brothers, and the workshops for young people, at the Camiral hotel. In 2019, with the excuse of the tenth anniversary of the foundation and the impossibility of convening in Girona city, the awards were moved to Barcelona. In 2020 they were suspended due to the pandemic. In 2021 they continued in Barcelona and last year they were held in Cornellà.
The awards, which, once again, recognize young talent, will be presented in a ceremony attended by the Kings, the Princess of Girona and the Infanta Sofia. This year’s prize winners are the violinist María Dueñas; the engineer and founding CEO of Open Cosmos, Rafael Jordá; the doctor in Biomedicine and professor at Yale, Marc Schneeberger Pané; the art therapist and founder of the Arte Palliative Foundation, Silvia Fernández Cadevall, and the CEO and co-founder of the Kidogo child care network, Sabrina Habib.
The Princesa de Girona awards are now in their 14th edition this year. Awards that promote research, artistic creativity, innovation, solidarity and the entrepreneurial talent of young people up to 35 years old who dedicate their work to improving the world from different areas.
In addition to the prize giving, on the same day and in the same place the Kings, Princess Eleonor and Infanta Sofia will participate in various activities and workshops, organized by the FPdGi.
The Princesa de Girona Foundation (formerly Príncep), created in 2009, is an initiative born from Catalan civil society and endorsed by the Royal House to strengthen the Crown’s ties with Catalonia through a series of activities focused on the teens. In recent years, through the Talent Tour, the foundation has organized different events in several cities in Spain, attended by the King or Queen representing their daughter Elionor, Princess of Asturias and Girona.
