A few days ago, Sergio Rico’s family celebrated the best of news: the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper managed to come out of a coma, remained conscious and communicated with his family and doctors with gestures. Quite an advance after almost a month admitted to the ICU of the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville after suffering an accident with a horse in the pilgrimage of El Rocío (Huelva).
His wife, Alba Silva, confirmed this positive evolution to the media with great emotion, pointing out that the goalkeeper “is taking little steps forward” and that his family is already seeing “the light thanks to the hospital and the health personnel.”
A return to real life after several days of authentic hell, in which the journalist has not separated from her husband’s side. However, with this good news, it seems that the Sevillian has been able to find some time for herself. This is how she demonstrated it, with an image of her from the gym, where she has gone to disconnect and free herself from the stress she has experienced in recent weeks.
“Need and therapy”, wrote the journalist through her Stories on Instagram.
Everyone knows that practicing sports helps to clear the mind and relieves stress, so there is no better activity that Alba Silva could have chosen to try to forget -even if only for a few minutes- the complicated situation that her family is experiencing. In addition, sport generates motivation, so she will help you face everything that comes your way from now on.
“From the beginning I knew that he was going to get ahead, because he is a champion,” said the journalist in one of his last hospital outings.
According to the first information, Rico received several kicks to the head from a horse once on the ground, according to eyewitnesses reported to the 112 Emergency Service of Andalusia and which coincided with several notices received of the fall of a horseman in one of the streets of the almonteña village, where the rociera pilgrimage is celebrated. The goalkeeper received first medical assistance from the Health Emergencies Center installed in the village, which transferred him by helicopter, in serious condition, to the Virgen del Rocío Hospital.
However, Cadena SER has had access to the full police report on the accident and it seems that this was not the case, and it was not possible to verify for sure if Rico was riding a horse or not.
Apparently, a garbage truck that was emptying a bucket startled some mules tied to a nearby cart, tied to a post. The animals broke free and fled in terror towards the place where the goalkeeper was, where they scared the horse that repeatedly hit the former Sevilla player. However, it cannot be confirmed if the athlete was riding the animal or not.
Rico was left lying on the ground, where he was treated by the emergency services. At the time he was “conscious, but badly stunned by the blow.” As stated in the report, there are only witnesses to the consequences, not to the moment of the events.
The judge of court number 2 of Palma del Condado has decided to dismiss the case since there are no witnesses to the facts, no crime or negligence can be charged.
