The works on the Via Augusta cycle path have reached a new stage. Yesterday the Barcelona City Council reported the removal of the last of the fences on the new section of this cycle path, the one between Muntaner and Ganduxer streets.

The Via Augusta bike lane, in fact, two one-way lanes that are located on both sides of this avenue, has been the subject of debate for weeks as a result of the complaints of motorists who enter and leave Barcelona daily through this route, which connects with the Dalt roundabout and the Collserola tunnels and which has seen its capacity reduced. The new mayor, Jaume Collboni, has announced his intention to “reevaluate” this infrastructure.

The Via Augusta bike path IS partly financed by European Next Generation funds and is also the result of Barcelona’s first participatory budgets (2021), in which the residents of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi voted in favor of the implementation of this project. The planned or projected bike lane works will allow the city’s cycle network to exceed 270 kilometers by the end of this year.
